(Always wash your hands before handling any of your respiratory equipment and supplies.)

CPAP Instructions:

  1. Assemble the mask/interface then put it on so that it is comfortable on the face.
  2. Connect tubing and begin breathing, this will initiate the machine to power on. (Some masks disengage this auto-on feature. In which case, you may manually press the power button.)
  3. To adjust the humidity, simply turn the dial from 0 to 5.
  4. The ramp feature will allow the pressure setting to drop to half the setting and gradually increase to the set pressure. (If your settings are AUTO, ramp is not available.)
  5. Water must be replaced daily and only distilled or spring water is to be used. You can purchase distilled water at any grocery store or pharmacy, or you can boil water and store it.
  6. Wipe off your mask daily to remove any oily residue.
  7. Mask, Tubing, Filters*, and Humidifier Chamber MUST be cleaned WEEKLY. You can use any mild detergent (ie Dove or any baby wash), or you can use a solution of Listerine and water (1 capful of Listerine to 3 capfuls of water). *Depending on your unit, filters may not be washable. Your respiratory therapist will clarify at the time of your set-up. Otherwise feel free to call us if you are uncertain.
  8. Every 3-6 months (depending on your insurance guidelines) you are entitled to receive a new mask, headgear, filter, tubing, and water chamber.
  9. Your unit is equipped with a monitoring device. If your doctor asks you to bring your data card to your next appointment, simply remove the modem from the back of your unit and remove the data card.  To reinsert-carefully place it into the port and click it into place (your unit will function without the card inserted).
  10. A CPAP is not meant to be viewed as a life saving device, however, contact us at any time day or night should you experience any problems with your unit. Your call/issue will be addressed if not the same day, then the next business day.

Nebulizer Instructions

To Use your Nebulizer:

  1. Place the nebulizer on a flat surface
  2. Plug the nebulizer into an electrical outlet
  3. Connect the tubing to the port of the nebulizer
  4. Place medicine into cup
  5. Place and twist top in place
  6. Place mouth piece (or mask) into top of nebulizer cup
  7. Attach tubing to the tubing stem

Start Your Treatment

  1. Turn on the nebulizer machine
  2. Check for mist coming out of the nebulizer cup. (If no mist, check for secure connections and be certain the nebulizer cup’s tower is in place)
  3. Put the nebulizer mouth piece into your mouth – between your teeth and over your tongue
  4. If you are using a mask – secure it over your nose and mouth and breathe with your mouth open
  5. Breathe slowly and take occasional deep breaths with a breath hold (if able). Continue the treatment until all of the medication is gone.

If you have any of these side effects, stop your treatment and call your doctor:

➜ Shaky

➜ Nausea

➜ Dizziness

➜ Increased heart rate or chest pain

When Treatment is Complete:

  1. Turn off Nebulizer
  2. Remove nebulizer cup from tubing
  3. Shake off any remaining liquid and allow to air dry

Once a week you will need to disinfect your nebulizer cup:

For disposable and non-disposable cups:

  1. Clean in warm soapy water
  2. Make a solution of 1 tablespoon of white vinegar and 3 tablespoons water
  3. Allow all parts of the nebulizer cup to soak in the solution for 30 minutes
  4. DO NOT SOAK THE TUBING
  5. Rinse well
  6. Allow to air dry

Cleaning the Machine

  1. Unplug the machine from electricity and wipe off with a damp cloth
  2. Remove filter and wipe off with a damp cloth

Safety

➜ Do not place or store the nebulizer machine by water

➜ Always unplug the machine to wipe off when cleaning

➜ Supervise when machine is being used by children

➜ Never operate if the cord is damaged

➜ Keep the cord away from heated surfaces

Oxygen Concentrator Instruction

DO NOT SMOKE OR HAVE ANY OPEN FLAME NEAR OR AROUND THE
CONCENTRATOR AT ANYTIME.

  1. Make sure the concentrator is securely plugged into a grounded wall outlet.
    Connect the Nasal Cannula (NC) to the oxygen output connector (this can stay connected
    after initial connection)
  2. POWER ON the concentrator
  3. Verify the flow rate is at the prescribed liter flow
  4. Place the NC into your nose and is securely in place as instructed by the Respiratory Therapist

After Use:

  1. POWER OFF the concentrator
  2. Remove the Nasal Cannula (NC)
  3. Replace your Nasal Cannula weekly. Replace your tubing monthly (or as
    instructed by the Respiratory Therapist).

Cleaning the Machine:

  1. Unplug the machine from electricity and wipe off with a
    damp cloth and wipe dry (DO NOT USE OIL BASED CLEANERS ON CONCENTRATOR).
  2. Remove filter and wipe off with a damp cloth
